Why Should You Read This?
If you’ve ever wondered how someone can make money in the forex industry without placing a single trade, this episode will open your eyes. Rohan’s journey isn’t the typical “trader” story it’s proof that you can build a career, an income stream, and even a community in this market without risking a cent of your own capital. His path is raw, real, and filled with lessons that every aspiring digital entrepreneur, marketer, or affiliate needs to hear.
In this episode, Ben sits down with Rohan in Lagos to uncover how a tech-savvy freelancer from Nigeria transformed his skills in SEO, organic traffic, and digital marketing into a thriving forex affiliate business. Instead of gambling on trades or jumping into the markets blindly, Rohan used the one advantage he already had the ability to drive, capture, and convert traffic. What makes this conversation so compelling is how Rohan breaks down the reality of freelancing, dropshipping, e-commerce, and affiliate marketing, showing both the wins and the painful setbacks that forced him to evolve.
As Rohan explains, what pushed him toward forex affiliate marketing wasn’t hype or big promises, but the need for sustainability, reliability, and a business model that truly rewards effort. He openly shares how he failed with certain brokers, lost trust within his community, and had to rebuild everything from scratch before discovering Varianse a platform that finally aligned with his expectations for transparency, tracking, support, and long-term partnership.
This episode is worth reading because it teaches you what most people ignore: the power of traffic, the importance of choosing the right partner, and how resilience and adaptation can turn a struggling freelancer into a global-level affiliate. If you’re tired of the usual “get rich quick” narratives and want to learn how real opportunity looks in the forex world, Rohan’s story will resonate deeply.

Welcome Varianse family!
Welcome to Why Varianse. Today, we bring those stories to you — stories of people who took risks, invested in themselves, and found success, sometimes in ways they never expected.
But today’s episode is different. Our guest didn’t dive into trading with his own funds. Instead, he discovered another path — one that allowed him to build a career and make money without ever placing a trade himself and without investing a dime.
Sounds intriguing, right?
So let’s hear how that’s even possible. Please join me in welcoming Rohan!
Rohan(Guest)
Thank you so much, Ben — and a warm welcome to Nigeria!
Ben (Host)
You know, Rohan, this is actually my very first time in Lagos. I’ve always dreamed of coming here, especially for a real safari ride. When I was a kid, I would sit glued to National Geographic, fascinated by the wildlife, the landscapes, and the rhythm of life out here.
And now, being here in person — it feels surreal.
Rohan, I have to say, we didn’t come to Africa by chance. This continent is alive with traders and financial energy. But even before you stepped into the Varianse Studio, your story caught my attention.
The production team told me how you got started in this industry without placing a single trade yourself — and without investing a dime of your own money.
That’s not something we hear every day.
Rohan(Guest)
Thank you, Ben. You know, just like every safari starts with that first step into the wild, my journey began the same way. I wasn’t the guy jumping into the markets with my own savings or chasing trades.
Before we dive deeper since it’s my first time on this podcast — let me introduce myself.
My name is Rohan Burton, and my story started far from trading. I’ve always been fascinated.
by computers, so I did my Computer Diploma from Aptech Nigeria. That interest in tech pushed me into the digital world.
I began my career as a freelancer on Fiverr and Upwork, offering digital marketing services — especially SEO and brand building. Over time, I became a Top Rated Seller on Fiverr, and clients kept rolling in.
But here’s where it gets interesting: instead of doing every project myself, I started outsourcing work, managing the flow, and keeping a commission. That was my first real taste of building something bigger than myself.
Things were going well, but I didn’t stop there. With my passion for SEO, I launched a Shopify dropshipping store — and to my surprise, it took off faster than I expected.
Ben (Host)
Rohan, that’s fascinating. Before we get into your affiliate journey, what was your secret sauce in those early days? Lots of people try freelancing or e-commerce and never break through.
How did you manage to drive traffic, get customers, and turn it into real sales?
Was there a specific strategy that helped you stand out?
Rohan(Guest)
Absolutely, Ben. I’ve always been a huge believer in organic traffic, no matter the platform.
Why? Because it’s the cheapest way to drive qualified leads, build an audience, and boost sales.
But here’s the reality: social platforms are tightening organic reach, and eventually most will move to a “pay to play” model. Traffic will get more expensive, and customer acquisition will get harder.
That’s why I always tell people — squeeze every drop of organic reach now, while it still exists, and funnel that traffic into your own website or store.
That’s exactly what I did with my Shopify store. Within months, I crossed $10,000 in sales, powered mostly by organic traffic combined with smart digital marketing.
For me, it wasn’t just about the money — it was the realization that with the right strategy and consistency, you can create opportunities out of nothing.
Ben (Host)
That’s powerful, Rohan. In trading, it’s the same: timing and consistency matter.
And what you did — using organic reach as your “market edge” — is brilliant. Most people think success online requires huge ad budgets, but you proved otherwise.
Rohan(Guest)
Exactly, Ben. Things were going well for a while. I expanded into affiliate programs with Amazon and Walmart, building separate websites for both. It felt like the next logical step.
But then the challenges hit me hard.
Low profit margins.
Ad costs eating profits.
Strict platform rules.
Risk of account suspensions.
And worst of all — returns and cancellations I had no control over.
But the biggest issue was low commissions. No matter how well I drove traffic or ranked websites, the payout didn’t match the effort.
Ben (Host)
I get it. It’s frustrating when the system works against you too much effort, too little reward. So what was the turning point?
Rohan(Guest)
Well, Ben, I had built a small team to help me. But things changed — and it got really hard to pay them on time. Every morning I woke up with worry. I couldn’t sleep properly because I felt responsible for them.
Meanwhile, I had built a loyal audience — people who trusted me, followed my content, and believed in my recommendations.
I knew that if I found the right model, I could build something bigger.
So I kept searching. I looked everywhere — Google, forums, YouTube.
And yes, I saw all the clickbait like:
“I made $750k a month!”
“I made $26,000 in a day!”
…all nonsense.
Then something unexpected happened.
Ben (Host)
Uh-oh, here we go
Rohan(Guest)
While working on one of my websites, I saw a Forex broker ad saying:
“Become a millionaire in 30 days by trading.”
Ben (Host)
A millionaire in 30 days? I hope they included a magic wand!
Rohan(Guest)
Exactly! I clicked the ad out of curiosity — and discovered they were targeting affiliates, not traders.
That opened my eyes. I dug deeper and found an entire industry of people earning through Forex affiliate programs without trading themselves.
That’s when I realized this was a real opportunity.
Ben (Host)
So what made the Forex affiliate model different from Amazon or e-commerce?
Rohan(Guest)
Everything. No inventory.
No ads.
No returns.
No cancellations.
No razor-thin margins.
And best of all recurring commissions.
If a trader you refer stays active, you earn for months or even years.
As an IB, you can build signal groups, mentorship communities, even your own brand.
For the first time, it felt like my skills could create long-term income — not just one-off sales.
Ben (Host)
So did you stick with that first broker?
Rohan(Guest)
No, Ben. I initially signed with a well-known broker I found on Google.
Big mistake.
People complained nonstop. My inbox exploded. It felt like I was running the scam.
I knew I had to find a legit broker really legit. So I went deep into trading communities:
Forex Factory, FXStreet forums, discussion groups.
That’s when I first came across Varianse — through real traders, real feedback.
Ben (Host)
So once you started with Varianse, what felt different?
Rohan(Guest)
Everything. The IB portal was a game changer.
Full transparency.
Client activity.
Trading volume.
Rebate earnings.
Custom referral links.
QR codes.
Tailored rebate programs.
I could actually build a real ecosystem — not just send traffic blindly.
Ben (Host)
And what about support?
Rohan(Guest)
Amazing.
My partnership manager guided me with best practices, scaling strategies, and sub-introducer models. I didn’t feel like “another affiliate” I felt like a partner.
Ben (Host)
And payments?
Rohan(Guest)
Always on time.
Always clean.
Zero issues.
Plus, Varianse operates through a secure, safe trading environment, so my community trusted the entire process. That trust is priceless.
Ben (Host)
Ah I see. Rohan’s journey reminds us that Forex isn’t just for traders — it’s for creators, educators, influencers, and entrepreneurs too.
You can grow, earn, and succeed even without placing a trade yourself.
Thank you, Rohan. I feel like I went on a safari — except instead of lions and elephants, we discovered new affiliate strategies.
Rohan(Guest)
Thank you, Ben. If even one person takes action after hearing this, I’ll call it a win. Just like a safari, the journey is as exciting as the destination.
Ben (Host)
Before we wrap up, Rohan — any final advice for your affiliate community?
Rohan(Guest)
Absolutely. I’ll leave everyone with this:
In marketing, whoever owns the traffic, owns the game.
The future belongs to those who control traffic, because traffic is the lifeblood of every business — today, tomorrow, and always.
Build it.
Own it.
And everything else will follow.
